My Coaching Approach
My Coaching Approach
There are so many definitions of coaching and different forms of coaching that I could easily fill this page with various academic quotations and extracts. Having researched and been trained in many of these various approaches I would rather spare you that and instead tell you what you need to know.
Coaching, quite simply, will help you to get what you want. Einstein said that we cannot solve problems with the same thinking that created them. Coaching will allow you to gain new perspectives, open up new channels of thinking, gain new insights, explore emotions and create choices so that you can decide on a plan of action that will take you in the direction you want to go. You have all the resources you need and the answers already within you. Coaching simply draws these out and channels them in the most useful and empowering way.
It is often necessary to first explore what is stopping someone getting what they want and frequently this is about beliefs. Sometimes it is useful to explore how an individual has formed beliefs and how they have learned to respond to situations. From here coaching then focuses the individual on change and moving forward into the future. This is the key difference between therapy and coaching. Traditionally therapy is often focused on the past and on understanding why we are the way we are. Coaching is solutions and future focused and draws upon the past only to the extent that it helps create the future.
My approach is eclectic and multidisciplinary, drawing upon a wide range of psychological theory and models including NLP and Cognitive Behavioural coaching. My approach is client centred and goal focused. So while you will drive the agenda for a session, I will lead and control the discussion according to what you want to achieve. If you decide to commit to coaching, you will get the most benefit by being open to the process, being willing to experiment, explore and enjoy the journey.

‘I have always been fascinated by people. After studying psychology I entered the corporate world, becoming a retail manager before progressing to Training and Development focusing on Management Development. Since then I have enjoyed a variety of Senior HR Management roles and continue to work at a senior HR level. Coaching, mentoring and development have always been a focus throughout my career and is something I continue to be passionate about. Seeing people move from where they are to where they never thought possible remains my greatest satisfaction.’
